CLINICAL RESEARCH GRANT
Scott Stackhouse, PT, MSPT, PhD, of Arcadia University, was awarded a two-year grant for his research project, "Combination of High-Intensity Strength and Locomotor Training to Improve Walking Activity in Ambulatory Adolescents with Cerebral Palsy." The objective of the project is to examine the effects of a combination of two interventions: high-intensity strength training and locomotor training, while testing the effects of intervention order on gait speed outcome as well as the factors contributing to changes in gait speed. Annually, the Foundation for Physical Therapy awards research grants to emerging investigators. Stackhouse's grant was partially-funded by the 2008-2009 Georgia State-Marquette Challenge, a student-run fundraiser that supports the Foundation for Physical Therapy. In 2000, Stackhouse also received a $7,500 Promotion of Doctoral Studies (PODS) scholarship from the Foundation for Physical Therapy towards the completion of a post-professional doctorate degree.
The Foundation for Physical Therapy was established in 1979 as a national, independent nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality and delivery of physical therapy care by providing support for scientifically based and clinically relevant physical therapy research and doctoral scholarships and fellowships.
