Mission & Objectives

COMMUNICATION

  • Provide an avenue for communication among clinicians, educators, and researchers regarding brain injury rehabilitation.
  • Act as a liaison between interested members of the Neurology Section/APTA and other organizations with interest in brain injury rehabilitation.

RESEARCH

  • Facilitate and coordinate brain injury research efforts-identify need, priority, and encourage collaboration across settings.
  • Support efforts to make brain injury databases available to PTs.
  • Facilitate consistency in documentation.

EDUCATION

  • Support the publication of articles and related information regarding brain injury in Neurology Section publications.
  • Support professional education efforts focusing on brain injury.
  • Provide a network for brain injury prevention education.

LEGISLATION

  • Monitor legislation which have an impact on brain injury survivors or might alter physical therapy service delivery to the survivors.

CDC Launches "Help Seniors Live Better, Longer: Prevent Brain Injury" Initiative

On March 6, 2008 , CDC's National Center for Injury Prevention and Control ( Injury Center ), launched the "Help Seniors Live Better, Longer: Prevent Brain Injury" initiative. This nationwide communication initiative is designed to raise awareness among adult children and other caregivers of older adults about ways to prevent, recognize, and respond to fall-related TBI in adults age 75 and older. Consumer education materials developed for the initiative include a booklet for older adults, a fact sheet and brochure for family members and other caregivers of older adults, as well as posters and a magnet.
